An apparent attack at the UT shut down the entire campus today. Either one or two gunmen began firing weapons in the Perry-Castaneda library early within the morning. The only person hurt or killed was the shooter. That person apparently committed suicide. Until the security teams clear the entire campus, areas around the college will stay locked down. This move is for the safety of students and staff.
University of Texas-Austin library is location of assault
Just as classes were beginning at the University of Texas today, a masked gunman walked to the Perry-Castaneda library. Some witnesses have claimed there was one shooter, while others are claiming you will find two. After running across university, the shooter entered the library. This was all while carrying an AK-47. Following sending sprays of gunfire to the library, the shooter evidently shot himself. Police are still on the lookout for a possible second shooter.
University of Texas shooting causes one fatality
Only the gunman passed away within the UT-Austin shooting. Several witnesses encountered the shooter as they ran across campus. Reports are the individual was shooting at the ground, not at people. SWAT teams were called into university. Police, ambulance, and fire crews were also called in to University of Texas.
Lockdown of university instituted
As soon as officials found out about the firing, pupils were informed. A full lockdown was put in place. Alerts were sent to students and faculty informing them of the lockdown. This alert was sent via email, text message, and Twitter. The text message alert included a warning to lock your doors. The alert also told off-campus pupils to “STAY AWAY.” The lockdown caused by the UT shooting will continue for at least a couple of hours, possibly until the possible second gunman is found or confirmed to not exist.
